Periodontal (Gum) Therapy
In the United States of America, 4 out of 5 people have some form of periodontal (gum) disease and they do not even know it! Most people are not aware of it because it is a disease that is often painless.
Periodontal disease can cause generalized inflammation around the teeth and premature tooth loss. Some people are genetically predisposed to periodontal disease. Today, we know that periodontal disease is also associated with heart disease, diabetes, low term birth weight, and digestive problems.
Treatment for periodontal disease includes scaling and root planing, local antibiotic placement (Arestin), healthy diets, good oral care, periodontal maintenance visits, and sometimes bone grafting/gum surgery.
